There is a song that contains these lyrics, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there is just too little of”. Nothing could be stated more accurately. God felt very strongly about our loving each other. In fact next to loving Him there is no greater command that He has handed down.

Bombs continue to fall in Afghanistan, violence is an everyday occurrence in the Middle East, India and Pakistan point their nuclear weapons towards each other and line up millions of troops on their borders, murder and anarchy are found from the Philippines to Somalia, someone sends anthrax to members of congress, murder in the United States reached an all time high last year, alcoholism, drug addiction, divorce and suicide rates are higher in the U.S. than any time, in spite of unprecedented prosperity since the beginning of mankind. These are all symptoms of a world that rejects God’s greatest commands. A society whereby people love themselves and care little for others.

The Bible teaches that as we enter the end times, our society with become a society without love. That we will become lovers of ourselves which will mark the beginning of the end for humanity. Do not be a part of the world in this respect. As Christians we must not be filled with hatred or be self-centered. Read for yourself what Jesus said concerning what the very foundation of the Bible is and how we are to prioritize our lives. Let’s redouble our efforts to treat everyone the way that we would like to be treated.

Matt. 22:36
Teacher, which is the great
commandment in the law?

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall
love your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with
all your mind.’
“This is the first and great
commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
On these two commandments
hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
