My favorite day of the year, aside from the cold, is Jan.2. Why?
Because the New Year offers a fresh start, and all of the mistakes and wrong decisions of last year can be put aside. I can focus on doing much better in the coming year. I spent much of the holidays setting goals and planning strategy, and I am very excited about all of the opportunities for next year. I have spiritual goals, family goals, career goals, and personal goals set and in writing, and I am ready to hit the ground running.
One question everyone needs to ask of himself or herself, is whether or not they are happy and satisfied with their current situation. In order to improve a situation, we must bring about change in our lives.
Otherwise things will seldom improve. If overweight, we should eat more sensibly and exercise. Continuing to eat and exercise the same way that we always have will maintain the status quo. If in a rut, force yourself to get out of it. Try something new. If you did not tithe last year, tithe this year. If you have never read the Bible, read it this year. If you do not have any friends, make some friends. If you do not have a hobby to enjoy, find one. Remember unless we change something in our lives, we are just about guaranteed more of the same.
This is not a dress rehearsal. When the final curtain comes down on your life, it will be too late to change anything. Now is the time to do everything that you want to do. There is a brand new year facing you. It is just like starting over to me. I really look forward to that. We can shed the old and put on the new. It is very similar to becoming a Christian. If you are not a Christian and have been putting off making the most important decision of your life, there is no better time to commit your life to Christ than at the beginning of a brand new year. I urge you to take this the most important step that you will ever take in your life today. Jesus will help you. All you need to do is to take the first step. Ask Him to come into your life today and next Sunday, make it official. Take a 2-minute stroll down the aisle at church and publicly take a stand for your God and Savior. You will never regret making that decision. You will only regret not making it.
Remember, nothing will improve unless you bring about real change in your life.
