I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want to be a police officer. It is such a thankless dangerous job and thanks to aggrandizing politicians and media it is getting worse by the day.
To hear the media and some politicians tell it, all police officers are psychotic racists out to murder innocent black people. They broadcast this stuff 24/7 and then wonder why police officers are ambushed and murdered.
There are approximately 800,000 police officers in the country and the overwhelming majority are good honorable people. While it is true that as with every segment of our society, there are a few criminal cops out there that need to be locked up, sooner rather than later, but the statistics just don’t bear out a racist police force.
It is interesting to hear the arguments put forth by the media and politicians in relation to black people. They point to the disproportionate number of incarcerated African Americans. (Approximately 12–13% of the American population is African-American, but they make up 35% of jail inmates, and 37% of prison inmates. -U.S. Department of Justice, 2014.)
Yikes why so many?
Well according to Pew this smaller population commits approximately 52% of the crime. There is ample evidence in the official police-recorded figures that black Americans are more likely to commit certain types of crime than people of other races; hence it would seem logical to me that they would be given a proportionate amount of scrutiny by police. While it would be naïve to suggest that there is no racism in the US criminal justice system, victim reports don’t support the idea that this is because of mass discrimination.
Higher poverty rates among various urban black communities might explain the difference in crime rates. Usually poverty indicates lower education. U.S. public high schools recorded a four-year graduation rate of 80 percent for the 2011-12 school year, an all-time high. Nationwide, black students graduated at a rate of 69 percent; Hispanics graduated at 73 percent; whites graduated at a rate of 86 percent.
Hmmm . . . Why the lower graduation rate for blacks? Does family have anything to do with this situation?
In the Black American community, 72 percent of black children are raised in a single parent household. Where are the dads?
Black Lives Matter is violently protesting shootings of black people by police. Recently there were two incidents of police involved shootings. It is horrendous that an innocent person would be shot in custody and if indeed that is the case and those officers are found guilty of a crime, they should be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.
With that said, murders in the nation’s third-largest city of Chicago are up about 72%, while shootings have surged more than 88% in the first three months of 2016 compared with the same period last year, according to data released by the Chicago Police Department. Police said the rise in violence is driven by gangs and is mostly contained to a handful of pockets on the city’s South and West sides which are predominantly black neighborhoods. In March, murders rose by 29% compared with increases of 75% in January and 126% in February. Overall, the month of March alone saw 45 murders and 271 shooting incidents.
Don’t those black lives matter? Why aren’t they rioting in the streets in those neighborhoods to end this senseless onslaught? Where are the politicians and the media? Why are they virtually ignoring the situation in most of our major cities? Because these are black on black crimes and not white/black or black/white and the ratings just are not there?
Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly got lambasted over the Trayvon Martin story for saying: “The reason is the collapse of the traditional African-American family unit; 50 years ago when Blacks had it much worse than they have it now, 25 percent of Black babies were born out of wedlock. Today, the number is close to 75 percent.
That is catastrophic.
But the civil rights industry and the White power fracture basically ignore the problem. They also ignore the entertainment industry putting out vile products aimed at young people, some of whom incorporate the gangster culture in to their own lives.”
He concluded his commentary by saying: “White people don’t force Black people to have babies out of wedlock. That’s a personal decision. A decision that has devastated millions of children and led to disaster, both socially and economically.”
Pundits howled and liberals growled. O’Reilly was mightily criticized and they railed about him being a Neanderthal while offering their more educated approach to solving the problem, highlighted by President Obama issuing a statement that he had initiated action concerning this problem and had in fact supported free birth control for those communities as a solution.
Oh great, just make it easier to have sex out of wedlock that will solve it for sure.
Well how is that working out for you Mr. Prez?
Geez . . .
Did anyone in Black Lives Matter ever consider that those little babies matter? Why don’t they protest the immorality as a way of life gold standard? Don’t they care that black children are more likely to be incarcerated, murdered, and live in poverty? Where are the protests? Why isn’t their 24/7 news coverage stirring the nation to action?
You won’t hear a peep about it because it is politically incorrect to mention personal accountability and immorality and the few that do speak out like O’Reilly get skewered for doing so and are labeled as racists. The powers that be much prefer the victim angle. A revival is needed in this country and pastors need to rise up and tell the truth.
