Friday I attended a private meeting in Los Angeles with about 15-20 global leaders, movie producers, CEO’s, and others concerning the current situation in the Middle East including the religious persecution, genocide, and human trafficking of those in the region. Rich Stearn CEO of World Vision just returned from Lebanon and Syria and showed graphic images of some of the families, especially children that have been affected by this war. It was deeply moving to say the least.
Curiously absent, were photos of men. The reason is that when ISIS enters a village they round up and slaughter them, either shooting, crucifying, or beheading them. Then they take the older women as slaves and award each ISIS fighter 4-5 children aged 8-14 (boys and girls) as sex slaves. When they tire of them, they sell them on the open market for as little as $40. Little 10 year old girls have been impregnated by rapists and are being subjected to abortion, (something their culture forbids). Why? Because their young bodies are not yet developed enough to survive having a baby.
I was told that the European countries are donating money to provide relief to some of these refugees, but it is not enough; however President Obama has yet to commit funds. If nothing else he is consistent.
The camps need water, food, tents, and with the onset of winter blankets and warm clothing. These people who have been rescued have nothing. ISIS took their homes and possessions and they literally left with just the clothes on their backs.
Many Americans, even those in the church, are treating this with a yawn and flipping the occasional news outlets that do cover the situation in order to catch a football game.
What is occurring is genocide. Christians and other religious minorities are being rounded up and murdered. Their possessions are being stolen, they are being raped.
Sound familiar?
Auschwitz? Dachau?
Just like Adolf Hitler, ISIS is trying to exterminate anyone that doesn’t agree with their twisted fanatical fantasies of God. It is pure evil and it is literally happening as I type these words.
So where is the church? We wouldn’t need President Obama to do anything if the church which consists of some 2 1/2 billion members would step up and take on religious persecution as an important cause and church leaders all over the world would SPEAK UP and rally their congregations to action.
Maybe when it occurs here on our soil and we are systematically rounded up street by street – house by house, people will wake up and want to get involved in this fight. But then again, it will be too late then won’t it?
And what do you suppose God thinks about this situation? He sounds angry to me . . .
Isaiah 65:12
I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will fall in the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me.”
