Yesterday I talked about the church and its reluctance to address the problems of those Christians being martyred and the women and children being trafficked for sex and servitude slavery in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

I spoke Sunday morning at a large Mary Kay conference and offered my testimony. The National Sales Director that put it on, (Jamie Vrinios) made a central theme of the conference giving back to God and specifically to help end human trafficking and assist those victims who are suffering from it. They raised several thousand dollars to fight this serious problem and it will undoubtedly save lives.

It was very rewarding to hear Director after Director of this great company offer their personal testimony of how God had helped them in their lives. I was excited to hear the name Jesus Christ being praised by so many people in what would normally be a secular company setting. Then when the testimonies had ended they said it was time to give back, Attendee after attendee gave a small portion of what God has given to them back to God’s work. Most of the attendees were young and in their twenties and probably didn’t have much money to spare and yet they gave and gave and gave.

Several Words for the Day readers also wrote and told me that they were moved by yesterday’s post and asked what they can do. I suggested going to the Jesus Alliance website and making a donation. We will see that it gets to a ministry that is actively involved with helping the victims; or if anyone prefers they can go to the directory of human trafficking ministries and contribute to their favorite. The important thing is to do something.

I think this entire situation needs to be covered in deep abiding prayer whereby we ask God to intercede to stir His body of believers to come alive with this issue and motivate believers to action. God’s light is what turns darkness to light. Those of us who are obedient within His church are an important part of His glory. Rise up and fight the evil that is overtaking our beautiful earth and like these faithful Mary Kay workers be covered in God’s glory.

Isaiah 60:2

Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the LORD rises and appears over you.
