I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and she lamented what seemed to her as a situation whereby everyone was talking about various problems facing Christians in the world, but no one seemed to be doing anything about it aside from talking.
I was mulling this over in my mind today and I wondered why this is so. I’ve heard friends of mine rant over various issues like Planned Parenthood selling baby parts and even aborting babies in such a manner that they will yield maximum profit. I’ve heard the same about sex slavery of little children who are being ravaged at just 8 years old, the removal of religious liberty and marginalization of Christian values, drug cartels having unlimited access through our porous borders, schools belittling the Bible and creationism and teaching children evolution and that homosexuality is normal and so on.
Talk, talk, talk, from leadership and those that they lead, but no action. Why doesn’t someone do something? The anti-god forces don’t seem to have a problem raising money, volunteers, or organizing like-minded people to collaborate together to perpetuate evil; why can’t we do the same to combat it?
Hmmm . . . Is it because no one knows what to do? Are they too busy with everyday life? Is it a case of feeling as though one person cannot solve the problem, so what is the use in trying?
The Jesus Alliance is trying to combat the above by creating awareness of the multitude of problems that we as believers face and providing a plethora of practical ways to do something about them. Realizing everyone does not have a heart for all issues, we are trying to present a number of projects that might appeal to each person. The evil that we as a society face is mind-bending: child abuse, racism, sex trafficking, pornography, education system, Godless politicians, divorce, hunger, sharing the gospel with those who’ve never heard it, suicide, drug addiction, runaway teens, and prostitution; I could go on for an hour. Trust me there are plenty of issues that have special appeal to all of us.
So at the Jesus Alliance we are researching a variety of problems and the top tier ministries that are combating them in order to present to you a number of ways that you can help in a meaningful way. Maybe you cannot leave your family and go to the mission field in Nigeria to help feed starving kids and teach them about Jesus, but you can pray daily for those kids and those brave missionaries who do make that journey, and yes you can support them by donating money. It doesn’t have to be your life savings. Send $5 or $10 bucks a month; you’ll never miss it, but it will be felt. We can fight Planned Parenthood and there are marvelous ministries like the Alliance Defending Freedom that are doing just that, but they need our support.
So do you want to do so something about it? Don’t dwell in that mindset that so many voters in this country have of thinking that there is no need to vote because one vote doesn’t mean anything. One vote means everything!
Jesus paid a heavy price for His church. He expects us to work towards building His kingdom and He will hold us accountable. Make no mistake it is a sin to refuse to do good and we all know there are consequences to sin. We will be held accountable in this life and the next for having the ability to do something to help someone, but ignoring it. Today would be a great day to start.
James 4:17
“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
