I remember when there was not any particular day of the week that had any special meaning to me. Nowadays I’m happy to see Fridays arrive, because that means we are getting closer to Sunday and attending church (and Bible study class). Saturdays are even better and by then I’m eagerly and impatiently anticipating Sunday’s arrival.
I did not always feel that way about attending church and in fact there were times when I looked for most any excuse not to attend.
So what changed?
I did.
God remains the same and opportunities to worship Him together with other Christians were always available regardless of my mood, attitude, or spiritual maturity.
So I have many friends today who are not keen on attending church services each Sunday, They would much prefer to play a round of golf, go to the beach, or go fishing, hunting, or boating. Some would even prefer working around the house, and/or remaining in pajamas all day watching television and being a “couch potato than attending church.
It is hard these days for me to imagine not having the desire to attend the church of my liking, but even worse would be to imagine having a strong desire to go to church, but be prevented by the antichrist forces of the world. In fact as I write these words, many people groups around the world are faced with that very prospect. Christians in those locales worship at their own peril.
Bible prophecies tell us that in the Last Days ALL followers of Christ will be persecuted for worshipping God. I am so thankful that those days have not quite yet arrived here in the United States of America and there is yet time for a harvest of lost souls. We can still worship our God for now, but know that there are already those in this country that would love to eliminate God and worship from society. Statistics tell us that church membership and attendance are already rapidly declining; so it seems that their desire to eliminate God from society is closer than any of us might imagine.
Are you among those who will keep looking until you find a reason NOT to attend church this Sunday? Or do you eagerly anticipate the opportunity? I hope it is the latter.
If you don’t like attending church, I would suggest that you ask God in prayer at this very moment to fill you with His Holy Spirit and give you that desire. We should yearn for the opportunity to spend this very special time with God and other members within the body of believers. For the moment anyway, there are many churches from which to choose. Make it a priority to find one you like and watch the quality of your life improve each and every week.
Have a great weekend and we would love to have you visit Honey Lake Church whenever you can. Sunday school begins at 9:30 so we gather a little early in order to stuff on muffins and coffee. After Bible study and a lively discussion, church begins at 11 and we are afforded the occasion to praise God through worship music and hear more of God’s word. Afterwards we have more fellowship and stuff again, only this time on the Honey Lake buffet.
Laughter will be ringing out, shaking hands and hugging friends will occur, and best of all right there among us will be Jesus walking up and down the aisles loving on His family with a huge smile on His face.
Later it will be a time for a nap and more relaxation.
Man O man it just doesn’t get any better than that this side of heaven. I wish every day could be Sunday! I pray that everyone reading this will take advantage of going to church this Sunday and just have a great weekend!.
Matt. 18:20
For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
