The Bible teaches that we are born into the world with a propensity to sin. In other words, we are born with a natural instinct to do bad things. Parents must teach their children right from wrong, they are not born with this knowledge.
Herein lies the rub, it seems that it is “fashionable” in today’s free-wheeling – anything goes – society that is ruled by psychologists (who need care themselves), to let kids “do their own thing”. They espouse, that we should not spank our kids, it will permanently mar them for life. I believe that is why Natural Born Bad Kids turn into Natural Born Killers. Aside from true mental illness, overly indulgent parents account for most of society’s serious problems.
Children who were never disciplined at home end up being disciplined by police later in life. Not only do they have trouble with the law, children who were reared without the proper parental guidance often can end up with a host of maladies.
Unwed teenage Mothers, drug users, alcohol abusers, liars, cheaters, thieves, immoral, disobedient to parents, unthankful, proud, unforgiving, slanderers, brutal, despisers of good, headstrong, haughty, and unholy all started out as “innocent” babies. They did not have to be taught how to be bad, but they missed the lessons on how to be good.
The Bible plainly tells us to discipline our children. In fact it tells us that if we don’t discipline them, that we HATE them! Spare the rod and spoil the child, that is what the Bible tells us. Today it is not fashionable to spank children. The problems listed above are a heck of a price to pay for being “fashionable”.
I do not believe in abusing children; however children must be taught right from wrong. Occasionally it requires more than a stern lecture. When my boys were disrespectful to their Mother, believe me they paid a price. To this day they still say, “Yes Ma’am” and “Yes Sir” to their Mother, me, or anyone who is their senior. It was something that had to be taught to them, sometimes with gentle advice and sometimes with a belt.
The Bible tells us to love our children. I can honestly say I love mine more than life itself. I think the lessons laid down for us in the Bible concerning raising our children are a mirror image of how God feels towards us. He loves us enough to have sent His Son to die for us; however He hates sin, He knows that it is bad for us, and will definitely punish us for it. He doesn’t just threaten to do it, like so many parents who tell their kids, “If you do that again, I’m ‘going to spank you”, and then never do it. The Bible tells us that there is a price to pay for disobeying the rules and committing sin, and he is true to His Word – Always!
