Recently I had an opportunity to make some significant money by teaming up with someone who is unethical and dishonest in some regards. This guy is a friend of a friend and I was told that he could work “miracles”
in bringing money to the table, especially when selling to the government. When I met him, I was totally uneasy around him. It was obvious he was a hustler and even in my short time with him, I caught several things that he said that were simply not true. I had a hard time concentrating on what he was saying as I was trying to protect my backside the entire time I talked to him.
I listened politely, but made no commitment. Later my friend told me he got the impression that we did not hit it off very well. I told my buddy that I believed that all of the success that I have enjoyed through the years has come directly from the good Lord combined with hard work on my part. I do not envision His blessing me for throwing in with the likes of his friend and trying to take the easy way out. I went on to point out the obvious about what bothered me about his friend, starting with the fact that he came to visit me for an overnight stay with someone other than his own wife. My buddy was aware of some of his buddy’s serious shortcomings. He is not at all like this guy and he told me that he dislikes his behavior as much as I do, but for some strange reason my friend is capable of overlooking these downfalls and has maintained his relationship and they have been best friends for many years.
I’m certainly not perfect and I am not trying to judge anyone, but I do not think that one gets ahead by compromising their own integrity. I told my buddy that if this guy could fill up a tractor trailer full of money and it was not done in an ethical manner, I did not want one red penny of it. I do not trust him and feel if he would lie to others he would lie to me. God is real and God blesses those who try to lead a righteous life, those who play by the rules, and work hard for their rewards. There are no shortcuts. If a deal is troubling to you, then do not do it. That is God’s voice whispering in your ear.
Ephesians 5:8
For you were once darkness, but
now you are light in the Lord. Walk
as children of light
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in
all goodness, righteousness, and
truth),
finding out what is acceptable
to the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness, but
rather expose them.
How well do you know the Bible?
Jesus named several things in the beatitudes for which the Lord blesses us. What are they?
Matt.5:1-11
