I talked to a friend of mine yesterday about playing the guitar. He told me he was setting aside one hour a day and practicing. I asked him if he was seeing some improvement and he said it was amazing how much better he had become in just a few weeks. This guy could play some guitar before he ever started this daily hour of practice thing and I can only imagine how good he is now. I have not picked up my guitar in weeks and no doubt can predict that my playing has suffered.

It is amazing how one can spend some well-disciplined time working towards a goal and be able to obtain superb results and then after slacking off for only a while suffer poor results. This holds true with music, or with working out and becoming slim and trim. Just stop exercising for a few weeks and watch how fast you revert back to your former state. The results of self-disciplined work are always worth the effort and it makes one wonder why we do not do more of it.

I was thinking of how this applies to my prayer life. Is your prayer life a structured, well-disciplined event? Or is your prayer life just sporadic and the result of only praying when you need something? Too often I find myself in the latter. I have had a structured time and plan for prayer in my life and I am determined to add it back into my life once again. When I do I am assured by the Bible that I will obtain excellent results for my life. So why not join me for an hour of prayer per day?

Hmmm one hour per day is a long time is it not? Personally I work out one and one half hours per day and it keeps me in good physical condition. I would love to spend an hour playing guitar for an hour a day and I know my playing would greatly improve. It follows that if I would spend an equal amount of time praying that my entire life would improve. The Bible tells us that Jesus used to go off by Himself and pray for hours at a time. He is the perfect model for our lives. So why not spend an hour earnestly praying to my Lord and Savior every day? Hmmm

The effective, fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much
