I finished identifying my goals for 2007 yesterdayWhew! If I get all that done I will be as busy as a one-armed paper’ hanger next year. Now I have to try and develop a plan of action to find a way to accomplish it all; (and see if there is even enough time in the days ahead to get it all done).
As I grow older I realize that there is precious little time that we are allotted on this earth. When I was young it seemed like there would be ample time to accomplish pretty much anything, but time flew by and recently as I celebrated my 60th birthday in Brisbane Australia I realized that somehow all of sudden I had grown old. Don’t get me wrong I’m not throwing in the towel, and I’m definitely still very much alive and kicking, but I realize that my time on this old earth is finite and if I want to get this stuff done I better get to it.
The Bible emphatically makes the same point and this notion is not restricted to those of us who are approaching our golden years. Young and old alike are instructed that we do not know the hour that Christ will return, and/or when we might unexpectedly be called home. The Bible tells us that it will come as a “thief in the night”; consequently we should prepare for it and live each day as if it could be our last. What if today is the last day that we spend on this earth? I don’t know about you, but I want to hear God say, “Well done my son!”, and if He is going to do so I better change some things in my life pronto!
Unfortunately we cannot change the past, but we definitely can impact what occurs today and every day going forth that we are allowed in this world. Define your goals today. Begin with spiritual as God should always be our number one priority. Family, health, career, financial, personal development are all areas where I set goals, but the most important to me are my spiritual goals. The Bible tells us that we can do all things through Christ Jesus. Goals are useless unless God is with us. Be sure through prayer and careful meditation that you are on the right track with your goals. It will take serious prayer to accomplish serious goals for the Lord.
One goal that I sincerely believe would be worthy for us all would be to get up very early in the morning and begin our day with prayer and early morning devotional. This can set the tone for our entire day. Can you guess who set that example for us? Jesus Christ!
Mark 1:35
Now in the morning, having
risen a long while before daylight,
He went out and departed to a
solitary place; and there
He prayed.
Well done!
