A friend of mine owns a big exotic game ranch in Texas. He has African game roaming all over it that includes some of the rarest species in the world and hunters pay mega bucks to come hunt them. I asked him which species are the most popular with his guests and surprisingly to him (and to me); the whitetail deer topped the list. In Texas they grow world class whitetails, and it turns out that hunters pay huge amounts of money to hunt bucks with huge antlers. Thus, the owners of these ranches pay big for breeder bucks to enhance their whitetail herds with the best genetics that money can buy.
He told me they periodically conduct auctions and buyers sometimes pay over a million dollars to purchase a trophy buck. He went to one such auction and a man paid $400,000 for a trophy breeder whitetail buck. After paying for the deer, he loaded it on his trailer, and it dropped dead before he even started his truck up. There was no recourse – All sales were final, and he lost big time. Yikes! That was some expensive barbeque. I can only imagine how that had to make him feel. Bad luck for that big old buck too . . .
Speaking of genetics, in doing some research for my novel I’ve been studying DNA and ongoing mapping efforts. I was surprised to discover that every cell in our bodies contains a complete set of DNA and amazingly the double stranded DNA helix holds all the information needed for life. It seems that each of our bodies’ cells function as living computers and DNA is the programming language that is used to control and influence life.
It has been well said that DNA is the “recipe to all life”, and that is so true because it is what ultimately makes each and every person living on this planet unique to each other and determines who and what they are. DNA contains all the information inherited from our parents and their parents before them and so on that helps to define who we are. Everything including our looks and physical traits such as height, weight, left/right handed, hair color, sex, eye color, IQ, etc. and special abilities like athletic prowess, singing ability, intellect, are all determined by DNA.
But that’s not all. The most fascinating thing about the DNA minicomputer is that it copies this information onto another molecule called RNA and together they regulate all biological functions including brain functionality. In short, our DNA/RNA combo controls everything within our bodies and does so through the use of complex mathematical algorithms contained within its core. What is wild is that it appears that every human being on this planet received, (for lack of a better term) “custom programming” of their DNA by someone; I can only assume by God.
Okay you’re probably bored silly, but I am constantly amazed at how God uses ordinary science such as computer programming principles to accomplish miraculous things. The Bible teaches that God created (formed) us in the womb to accomplish His purpose. One would have to assume that He would endow us with all the abilities necessary to accomplish that purpose including looks, strength, special abilities, and intellect, whatever . . .
So did He merely “will” that it be done, or did He somehow program our DNA? I think He programmed us through our DNA. Interestingly scientists are experimenting with altering DNA now. Their goal was to map it first and then figure out how to program it to achieve certain effects such as eye color, gender, etc. They thought they’d done a good job mapping it until recently when they discovered entirely new sub-layers of coding which indicates that DNA is far more complex than anyone could ever imagine, and it will certainly add untold years of more research to begin to better understand it, if indeed it is even an achievable goal.
Hmmm . . . So exactly why am I boring you with this information this fine morning? Well, I’m doing it because I’m so impressed with our God and His intellect. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to write software code and instill it in every cell in our bodies and to design it to send signals to activate switches within our computer-like brains to tell our bodies to breathe, talk, walk, think, or otherwise function.
And of course, then I can only dream about the mammoth proposition of figuring out how to individually program billions of people with the software code to accomplish various objectives. I cannot say for sure that God designed us like this, but it seems plausible to me and I for one consider it “fun” to dream about it. I mean what else is there to do at 2:00 a.m. this morning? I suppose most of you might respond, “Well you might try sleeping”.
Bah, my custom program doesn’t allow for much sleep. So did God speak the world into existence, or did He use physics to formulate a big bang? Did Eve really eat an apple, or did she read a forbidden textbook that opened her eyes to good and evil? Do angels have spiritual DNA? How was “free will” programmed and installed in us?
The Bible states that nothing is impossible for Him and that His power exceeds our capacity to even begin to contemplate it. I believe it. The most amazing thing to me as I contemplate how God might physically do some of the amazing things He does is that He would takes time to bother with such a tiny aberration as me, a disobedient, rebellious sinner, and yet the Bible tells us that the very hairs on my head and yours are numbered. It states that a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without our God knowing it and that we are far more valuable to Him than sparrows.
We should not feel like we are an aberration and/or worthless. God lovingly designed us to be who we are, and He loves us, make no mistake; otherwise, He wouldn’t have sent His Son to die on a cross. He wants us to love Him in equal fashion, and I do love him and hope and pray you do as well.
He will spend eternity teaching us fascinating things and I don’t know about you, but I have thousands and thousands of questions for Him. Maybe that’s why He’s delayed bringing me on home those dozens of times I’ve narrowly missed dying. Quite possibly He’s preparing Himself mentally for being bombarded with questions. LOL
Did Jeremiah get the gift of prophecy in his DNA?
Selah . . .
Jer. 1:5
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
