My oldest son is coming today for a week-long visit and some fishing and I’m really looking forward to it. He lives outside of Portland Oregon and has been unaffected by the antifa thugs, radical liberals, and anarchists living there. He states there is a small enclave of conservatives in his suburb community and they are separated from the radical crazies.
In speaking to him about it I am reminded of Elijah when he was fleeing Jezebel. He had killed all of her prophets and she’d sworn vengeance and her army was in hot pursuit. He ran away as fast as he could and was so afraid, he asked God just to take his life. An angel appeared to him and gave him food and water and he was instructed to travel to a cave and wait. There the Lord made a dramatic in-person appearance and asked Elijah what was wrong.
Elijah told the Lord he was the only one left and Jezebel was trying to kill him. (As if the Lord didn’t already know his situation.) The Lord assured him he had 7000 men who had not bowed the knee to the idol Baal, then He gave him further instructions on how to defeat and kill his enemies.
So often we feel that we are alone fighting the battle against the depraved antichrist forces of evil that are gaining ground on the world leading up to the Rapture. Today the Lord has reserved far more than 7000 of His saints that have not bowed the knee to the Woke forces that are intent upon destroying the goodness left in this world.
In Kings 19:11 – Elijah’s encounter with God Himself was Chronicled:
The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
Are you feeling discouraged and alone today? At some point in our lives, everyone will feel alone or experience loneliness and hopelessness. How often do we just need God’s assurance, as our Good Father, that He is there, and that we are not alone? I cannot overemphasize how important it is to read the Bible.
Do you ever ask these questions?
- Where is God in my suffering?
- Has He forgotten about me?
- How will I ever get through this?
God knew there would be times when we would be so crushed by fear and uncertainty and that we would lose sight of His presence. He knew there would be circumstances so difficult we would often question whether He really loves us and is with us in our suffering.
But the answer is in Scripture. It shows us we are not alone in our circumstances — no matter how difficult they are.
In Isaiah 43:2, God says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
There is no reason to fear; you are not alone. God has been there for every tear and every sorrow, and He will strengthen your heart and help you no matter where He finds you today.
Chances are the Lord is not going to appear to us in these latter days as He did with the prophet Elijah, but we can vicariously see and listen to His Gentle whisper and experience His awesome power and feed off His and strength over all of creation by reading the Bible daily. The key lies in Scripture – The Holy Word of God Himself.
I start every morning by reading the Bible. How about you. If you are like me, you feel the power of God through your faith as it removes all fear of the future. As for me I look forward to each and every day and I do not fear the future. Actually I look forward to it.
Joshua 1:9
“This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
