November 25, 2020 – Click here to listen

There is a beautiful sunrise in the Florida Keys this morning.

It is accompanied by a nice tropical breeze and swaying coconut trees. It makes me feel good to be alive this morning. A friend of mine went to see his family up North and sent me a photo of very crowded lines at the Fort Lauderdale airport and gloated over the fact that he was in the precheck line.

Hmmm . . . I suppose I could gloat over the fact that I’m looking out my window at clouds with silver lining and glistening ocean and gentle waves and I don’t even see another person much less an entire line of them.

I have a good friend who lost his election and after serving for over a decade has packed up his office and hit the road for a well-deserved vacation.

Where is he going?

Nowhere in particular. He is generally heading west but aside from that he has no particular plans. His first stop was Pensacola and last night Natchez Mississippi. He said he found it interesting there and said he might hang around for a few days before heading on down the highway. I suppose he will enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at some restaurant surrounded by strangers but knowing him and his gregarious nature they won’t be strangers for long.

I’m so envious over his adventure that my entire body has turned a bright green. My bad back won’t allow for me to drive much over an hour before my sciatic nerve screams at me to stand up and relieve the pressure, so a trip like that simply won’t work until I get surgery. I’m happy for my friend though, 2020 has hit him especially hard, this adventure is God’s recipe for healing.

At first, he seemed a little bummed out about losing the election, but after some thought is delighted to have the burden lifted. He is not currently married or attached to a significant other, and it presents the perfect opportunity for him to chase the sun.

He is my daily Bible study partner, and we conduct it via the Internet and e-mail. I asked if he was going to continue while on this trip and he emphatically told me that of course he was continuing our 7 day per week journey through the Bible every morning.

I have written Words for the Day for 22 1/2 years five days per week and no matter how I was feeling, where I was in the world, or if I was on vacation or working, I’ve sent it out. It is my belief that we don’t take a vacation from God and we need Him every second of every minute of every hour 24/7.

So if you are traveling to be with family or friends or staying home please don’t forget God this Thanksgiving and take your Bible with you. We have much for which to be thankful. Forget all your problems and the problems of the nation and simply thank God for who He is and what He has done. There will still be plenty of time to kayak, paddleboard, watch football, play golf, fish, hunt, or visit with loved ones and who could forget stuff on turkey on arguably one of the best holidays of the year.

1 Timothy 4:4

“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.”
