I knew something was up when I noticed that after surgery on my right eye earlier this week that my vision seemed blurred. I learned yesterday at my post-op visit that even though I now have a perfect lens in it, my 20/20 vision cannot be restored in that eye. I could wear glasses 4 inches thick and still not see 20/20.
Well, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, isn’t it? The good news is that my dominate left eye is 20/20 and I can see better out of it than I’ve been able to in years.
Boom Son! I’m good.
This morning a friend sent a text and asked how I fared yesterday. I gave him the bad news and he sent me this photo

“You’ll look great!” Another friend told me that perhaps I could learn Braille. Ouch! I didn’t hesitate to respond. I asked about his decision. He responded, “Decision? Huh?” I asked, “Are you going to get a peg leg made of oak, pine, or walnut?” (He is getting a hip replacement next month and I was chiding him about needing a peg leg afterwards.)
While all of this may seem mean spirited, I would rather engage in this than have someone feeling all down in the dumps about it. The old cliché that “life is not always a bed of roses” accurately describes our fallen state. Some will say that I’m under satanic attack and I would respond that of course I am. Me, and you, and every other human being on this planet are being attacked every day. Satan wants to discourage and destroy us all. He’s nasty.
So, we can choose to whine about the imperfections of this life or do what I do. I choose to place my hopes in Jesus Christ and be happy. This temple in which I currently reside will eventually return to dust anyway and I will receive a new glorified body. My vision will be renewed as will my broken down back and all the aches and pains of a wild and wooly ride through this life will disappear.
Until then, give me an eye patch, peg leg, back brace, and chemo for my skin cancer and I’ll be fine.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Charles R. Swindoll
Proverbs 15:13
“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.”
Have a great holiday weekend and go to church this Sunday!
