I watched a 60 Minutes interview with Michael Jackson last night. I could not help but wonder what went wrong in this mans life. Why would he use plastic surgery to the extent that he did? His lips are tattooed to look like he is wearing lipstick and his eyebrows tattooed to represent eyeliner. His nose is weird looking as is his entire face. Obviously he was dissatisfied with the way he looked, and went to great lengths to try and change it. He built his famous Neverland ranch at tremendous cost. It is like Disney World with everything money can buy at his disposal, and is yet another attempt at escape from reality.
He is once again accused of molesting a young boy. If this proves to be true, why would he do such a thing? Is he a product of too much fame and fortune, too fast? He alluded several times to his difficult upbringing, mentioning that he did not have a normal childhood and was always on the road performing. I wonder if he received any Christian upbringing. During the interview I noticed that Mr. Jackson quoted a verse in the Bible inaccurately to begin with and then he corrected his mistake. Initially he said that money was the root of all evil, but then correctly said, that the love of money is the root of all evil. He also mentioned the love of Jesus on an occasion during the interview. Does he know the Bible? The plan of salvation?
Only God knows the heart of this troubled man. God blessed him with enormous talent which led to fame and tremendous wealth. Neither has been used to glorify the Lord, neither has brought happiness or peace; in fact it appears as if it only led him down a dismal path of tremendous dark temptation. All of the money, fame, and glory that the world can offer, will not bring one happiness, and if you doubt this, just ask Michael Jackson and scores of others who have gone before him whose lives are a mess. Plastic surgeons are not the answer, nor are sex, drugs, power, material things, or fame. All are products of this world. Only God can bring peace, and happiness. To obtain it we must obey His commands. Jesus once said that His yoke was easy and His burden light. It is not difficult to follow Jesus and He does not ask the unreasonable. He just wants us to love Him and each other and live our lives for Him. In return we enjoy tremendous peace and happiness, not to mention eternal rewards in paradise.
Think about this as you lay out your goals this year…If financial or material matters tend to dominate your goals, remember where money, power and worldwide fame have landed Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Elvis Presley… How would you like to be facing what Michael Jackson and Kobe Bryant are facing this new year? The world has it wrong. God has it right…
1 John 5:19
We know that we are of God and
the whole world lies under the sway
of the wicked one.
How well do you know the Bible?
At the end of the age, when this seal is opened and a pale horse appears ridden by someone named Death and Hades, widespread death and destruction to one quarter of the earth will be wrought. Which seal is it?
