I was much encouraged by the election. Most of the commentary that I have seen indicated that the primary reason for President Bush’s mandate from the people of America was based on morality issues. This was not lost on Democrats, and I watched the Democratic leader of the House lament the fact that so many people voted because of moral reasons. Her being from San Francisco, it is easy to understand why she is bewildered by it. She did say however that Democrats were going to have to change their agenda if they were to succeed in the future. This was astonishing coming from her, a staunch advocate of gay rights and abortion. This is excellent news to me. God has blessed America more than any country in the world. Why? Because this country as a majority worships Him and considers His commands to be sacred and after this election we remain “one nation under God”, we can look forward to blessings from God because of it. We have His promise of that!
I believe that God will continue to bless America in light of this election. I was disheartened to see that California voted in stem cell research, but I was encouraged to see that so many states banned same sex marriage. We did not win everything but we made good progress. The best news is that President Bush and not Senator Kerry gets to appoint the next Supreme Court justices and there will likely be several over this term. The Bible tells us that we should be presided over by righteous men. President Bush is a good example of this in my mind.
Although far from perfect, he starts each day in prayer and acknowledges that God is in control and he is just a steward of what has been given to him by God. We should follow this example.
Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel
of the ungodly
Nor stands in the path of
sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the
scornful;
But his delight is in the law of
the Lord,
And in His law he meditates
day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of
water,
That brings forth its fruit in
its season,
Whose leaf shall not
wither;
And whatever he does shall
prosper.
