Saturday night I got a call late in the night and it was my oldest son.
He asked me if I had heard the bad news today. Immediately I thought that something had gone wrong with the Department of Defense contract that he and I have been working so hard on for several weeks. It was of course something far more important; he relayed the news of Jody Purcell’s car crash and tragic death.
At times like these everyone understands what is really important in life and what is not. The Defense Department deal that I thought was so important became insignificant in a moment’s time. We get so wrapped up in our everyday lives that sometimes we forget what is really important.
Our God, our family and our friends are often ignored as we scurry around feverishly allotting time to the “important’ issues in our lives.
I don’t know about you, but I am going to take a step back and re-evaluate my priorities.
Have you told a loved one lately that you love them? Have you taken some time to spend with someone you love? Are you living the life you should be living? Are you spending enough time doing the Lord’s work? These are the type questions that are running through my mind. Also I am asking myself whether or not I will be proud or ashamed if called upon myself to face Jesus Christ today.
Luke 21:34
But take heed to yourselves,
lest your hearts be weighed down
with carousing, drunkenness and
cares of life, and the Day come
on you unexpectedly…
