The Bible instructs us to avoid foolish disputes and arguments about Biblical laws and labels such activity as “useless”. Yet there are those who tirelessly argue every jot and title of the Bible and reject all but their own narrow view of the Bible’s laws. Many Christians are aware of the fact that we are told not to be divisive over scripture, but did you know that we are instructed to “reject” a divisive person after they have been admonished but continue on with it?

Christians often feel that because of their being a Christian that they must be tolerant of all types of behavior. Not so. We are told to admonish and reject if the admonishment fails. I ask myself why the apparent contradiction and I come away convinced that divisiveness, contentions, and strivings about the law accomplish nothing for the kingdom of God, and in fact harm it greatly. Most Biblical points are subject to interpretation and there is rarely an absolute answer. God’s way is for us to get along together and love each other. Strife is not conducive to it.

Titus 2:9
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
Reject a divisive man after the
first and second admonition,
knowing that such a person is
warped and sinning, being self-
condemned.

How well do you know the Bible?
Judge not that you be not judged. Who said it?
Matt.7:1
