One day I woke up to go fishing. I looked out the window and saw lightening flashing offshore. I went to my computer to check the weather. When I clicked on it to go to the Internet, my homepage came up and lo and behold there was my smiling face on the front page. I had no idea that they were going to do that and it was quite a shock. Wow they chose to publish the recent article from Inc. magazine about my life. The news organization has a huge market and I wondered what that would stir up.
I went fishing with my sons, the weather cooperated and indeed we had a great time catching thirty something Mahi Mahi. When I got home my e-mail box was inundated with e-mails from the story as was my voice mail box. People all over the world started writing and calling in to tell me how inspiring my story was and how much it meant to them. Our receptionist sent me an e-mail that said that I had over 400 voice mails about it. By the end of the day the article was rated number one for this network for the day with over 18,871 people voting for it with a rating over 4.51 out of five. Warren Buffet’s article of how he scored a half billion on Bud got a 4.04 with 1224 votes came in second.
People are coming out of the woodwork wanting advice, to have me speak somewhere, to loan/give them money, to have lunch one day, to tell me there story, to interview me on the radio, and one lady wants to buy the movie rights to my life story. The best one though was from a good friend of mine, he simply stated, “Don’t go getting celebrity on me”. Another friend wrote, “400 voice mails, I think they like you”. My response to him was, God is good all the time The readers like the way God transformed my life Nothing to do with me and I know that
I think this was the number one rated story because people enjoy seeing an underdog persevere and win against terrible odds. God always picks someone weak to demonstrate His power. Look at David and Goliath. My story exemplifies that no matter how badly something is broken, (my life for example), God can fix it. It gives people hope. I urge others to do as I did and read the Bible and come to love the Lord. I can honestly say that miracles can occur provided we do our part.
Dare to dream; stay close to God and the team of the Lord and stay working hard, can make those dreams come true. Jesus must be the foundation upon which we build our hopes and dreams and lives. Keep your faith strong!
