I was talking with my father one time about a tough decision that I was facing. He said rather casually that what I needed to do was to put it in the Lord’s hands and let Him tell me what to do. I impatiently responded that it is easier said than done. That is exactly what I have been trying to do. I have prayed and prayed over this decision and one minute I think the Lord wants me to do “X” and the next minute “Y” and the next time “Z”. I said, like I have said one thousand times before, that I wish the Lord would just come down and sit beside me and say, “Son this is what I want you to do.” Or he could just shout it out from heaven for all I care; I want to know the will of God.

My Father said something that I felt was very wise. He said that is why we have faith. You just must have faith that the Lord will let you know in His own way what He wants you to do. He went on to say that we probably would not need faith if the Lord overtly revealed Himself.

Knowing this does not make my decision-making process any easier as to knowing the exact will of God for this decision right now; however, it strengthens my resolve to bolster my faith and to look all the harder for God’s gentle answer to my questions.

We all come to a point in our lives where we can take a path to the left, or an opposite path to the right. Choosing the path that God wants us to follow is not always easy. My conclusion is to pray hard about the matter asking God to lead us, and then have complete faith that God will do so. Although He will not likely shout down from heaven, we will know the answer as He reveals His will for our lives in other ways that He has chosen.

In the verse below Jesus had cursed a fig tree because it did not bear fruit, and it became withered immediately. The disciples were questioning Jesus as to how He made the fig tree wither so soon. Jesus answered with a powerful message about faith. Later after the resurrection these same doubting disciples went on to perform miracles, healing the sick and even resurrecting the dead through their total unswerving faith in Jesus Christ. Faith unlocks the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives whereby Jesus Christ can reveal Himself to us. Like my dad said, it is faith that is needed.

Mat 21:21
“Assuredly I say to you,
if you have faith and do not doubt,
you will not only do what was done
to the fig tree, but also if you say
to this mountain, “Be removed and
be cast into the sea, it will be done.
And whatever things you ask
in prayer, believing, you will
receive.”
