It appears that next week I wll join a couple of buddies to fish an offshore tournament. It will be my first excursion since fishing in Costa Rico after my accident. I’m hopeful that I have enough stamina to make it an entire day. My wife and I will go a day early so I can be well rested.
I’ve been exercising some to try to prepare myself, but usually find myself lying on a couch sleeping instead. Yes I’m getting old. I certainly do not have the stamina that I once had. Have you ever noticed how it is far more difficult to get back into good shape once you lose it? It is kind of like dieting to a strict diet and losing all kinds of weight and reach your goal only to backslide back into obesity.
I believe that when we reach this point it is a prime time to ask God for help. He loves us dearly and wants to help. All we need to do is admit this problem is bigger than you and you need help! Don’t want to bother God with trivial requests? That would put you in dangerous territory and perhaps be insulting to Him. Isn’t our God big enough to assist one of His children in need no matter what the problem? He is omnipotent for crying out loud!
So why don’t people ask God for help! Hmmm I think there are several reasons. One, many folks just don’t think about it, or don’t want to bother God for such a small thing. Others cannot see a way out which means they don’t trust that even God can help them. Pornography, drug addiction, alcoholism, sexual perversion, and smoking cigarettes are examples of that kind of thinking.
God will partner with us to solve issues like the foregoing, but YOU must give it some effort. We cannot sit back and expect God to go to work solo. Instead, we must start the project and ask Him to join us. The Bible tells us that God hears every prayer and He will answer every one of them provided it is within His will and we hold up our covenant with Him by working feverishly to resolve it on our own.
The most important thing to remember is that we must ask in order to receive.
Matt. 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
