I awoke this morning to a gorgeous sunny day. Lately it has been cloudy and by afternoon the rains begin. Last year we had a drought and this year floods. It is much easier to maintain a positive attitude when it is sunny rather than rainy. Here in Mississippi the weather is not good. We endure extremes in both directions. Seemingly when the sun is shining it is better, until it brings unbearable heat. Here in Mississippi, it gets so hot as to be unbearable and dust is everywhere. When it rains as I am slogging through the mud I get to thinking maybe it is time to build an ark.
I used to say getting mad because it rains is somewhat stupid because our anger cannot stop it. I still subscribe to that logic but it still drives me crazy sometimes, especially if I have something planned that is ruined by rain (or blazing heat). I wonder if it is sinful to be that way. Should we accept what God gives us without complaint? The answer is, it is my conviction that we should take anything God sends our way with thanksgiving.
During the rainy season I prayed for it to stop, and during the drought I prayed for rain.I have learned that I should just live my life and not ask for anything that is beyond my control. If I cannot change things like the weather myself, it has to be God ordained. If it is God ordained it means he has His own purpose that He wants to accomplish with it. Some folks cannot accept this truth very easily but we were created for Him and not vice versa! (This does not pertain to asking God to intervene).
Zig Ziglar used to say, your attitude deternines your altitude. Zig was referring to careers, but I want to apply it to my personal spiritual growth. I want to attain a high enough altitude wherby I eventually reach heaven where I’ll be surrounded by an innumerable amount of angels and listen to their glorious songs of praise for the One who sends the rain and allows the sun to bring fierce heat. Basically God does what He wants and we are expected to appreciate both. To do otherwise is akin to doubt that God’s purpose is good. The journey begins with attitude. If we get angry with God over a simple thing like the weather how can we expect to confront more serious issues such as death?
Psalm 113:3
From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!
