A good friend of mine had to euthanize his cat yesterday. He loved that old cat and vice versa and it is heart breaking to hear him trying to choke back tears and try to describe how much he will miss it.
My buddy has serious medical problems and lives alone in his office. He and his son are best of friends and love each other very much; however, his son is married and often goes on vacations with his wife while my friend stays behind. He and his little cat provided company for each other during the lonely times, and it is so sad to know that his little cat has passed on.
Yesterday he was asking me about pets making it to heaven. The Bible leaves that one for us to wonder about. Personally, I don’t much think pets will cross over to the next world, but one thing about God that we must understand is that he is sovereign and can do anything He desires. Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
So, since it is not mentioned in the Bible we are left to wonder about it. Maybe we’ll see them sitting right next to Jesus or in His lap.
I’ve owned so many dogs I cannot even remember them all. Some I remember as great friends and others as pests. I wonder if heaven is going to be so grand that we will not even remember pets or if God will give us new everlasting pets that are without flaws.. I hate to hear barking dogs, especially little rat looking dogs that incessantly bark, bark, bark, and to me would be the equivalent to dying and going to hell.
I recommended that my friend get another cat, but he is adamant that he doesn’t want any more of them, stating it is too painful to lose another. To that I say poppycock. My good friend needs a friend even if he has four legs and a wet nose. Or for that matter if their spouse moves on they find another with whom to spend time.
I truly believe God does not want us to be alone. Sharing time with pets or just another friend seems much more logical. We do know that Jesus is right there with us.
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
