So, my Bible study partner recently told me that I was like an “old broken-down plough horse” due to getting old, having various ailments, and being ready to . . . well . . . go to the glue factory. I write about it today in Words for the Day because I received so much correspondence from various friends and readers who are feeling like an old broken down plough horse themselves and need some encouragement and hope.
One of my best friends is suffering from maladies for every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Oddly I have never seen this fellow closer to God than he is right now. He is suffering through his health problems, but he is literally telling everyone he knows about what Jesus has done for him medically and spiritually with a big smile on his face.
One Bible verse that describes him is particularly poignant – 2 Chronicles 15:7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” Hmmm . . . Do not give up for your work will be rewarded. We, all need to hear that verse.
Consider what another friend wrote about my being a “broken down plough horse” . . .
“Plough horse? Definitely, and thanks!!
A plough prepares the soil, by turning it over . . . for planting seeds. But not without the workhorse. Not without being yoked . . . with Jesus!
Bob, thank you for your dedication and commitment to serving the Lord. Using the gifts He’s blessed you with, to bless so many! (That’s got to feel pretty good).
So yes, you’re a plough horse . . . and a great one! Your blades are still sharp, and you’re still planting seeds. You’re awesome!
This respondent’s comments do make me “feel pretty good”. Thanks to him and thanks to God for inspiring him to write and make me feel good about being close to Jesus and planting seeds. While I never can tell how close I am. It is usually nearest that I know I can . . .
John 5:15
“The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit”.
