I along with millions of other folks watched the Republican debates last night. It reminded me of a bunch of grade school kids trying to shout each other down. The highlight for me was when they showed a clip of Rich Men North of Richmond. Today’s reviews of who won and lost were comical. Fox news stated that Ramasway was the biggest loser and Daily Mail had him as the biggest winner. Both news organizations are owned by Rupert Murdoch, go figure.

If you didn’t watch it, it would be impossible to know who won from reading about it online. I watched it and I felt Desantis and Nikki Haley were the most reasonable and Asa Hutchinson seemed to have excellent qualifications and was very well spoken. Pence was a blabbermouth as was Ramasway. Christie was a nonstarter as was Governor Burgum.

I considered the evening a waste of time. For some strange reason (to me) it looks like Trump will get the nod. He will run against Biden and it will be the battle of the felons. I admit I’m in the minority in disliking Trump and cannot understand the mindset of so many millions of Trump supporters (and Biden supporters for that matter). It seems we could do better as a nation.

Trump’s massive legal problems and the fact that he is mean spirited. an arrogant narcissist, and unlikable contribute to my disliking him. But that is why we have elections and unlike the prevailing attitude in our polarized country I will accept the results without hating the winner. I will say Trump was an effective President, perhaps the most effective in modern times with one major exception which I deem to be a fatal flaw.

He is a divider of our country. His is a “ME against them attitude”. Anyone who doesn’t agree with him 100% is an enemy. There is no room for any opinion aside from his. As a result, many millions head over the cliff like lemmings and join him in his quest for self-destruction. As evidence our country is more divided now than I have ever seen it in my 76 years.

Trump simply does not seem to adhere to or agree with “One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all”.  It is “his way or the highway”.

It will be interesting to watch the legal proceedings against former President Trump and President Biden. Will their legal woes matter to either side of the great divide in the United States? Or will they just be ignored like the evidence in O.J. Simpson’s trial? Will we once again become One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all?

Yes we will, and that will occur when Jesus returns and not before.

2 Cor. 13:11
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
