I recently contracted to have a shop built where it connects with my metal building. The workers were prompt and hard-working and everything was progressing nicely. I know some Spanish and wanted to tell them in their native tongue that I appreciated the good job they were doing. So, I approached the foreman of the crew and greeted him in Spanish and asked how things were going, also speaking in Spanish.
He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face. I tried English and he responded in broken English. So, at this point I’m scratching my head. I thought, I don’t speak Spanish fluently, but I get by, what is going on here? Then I put two and two together. This crew came from Philadelphia MS and there is a big Indian reservation there. This gentleman was a Choctaw native American.
The mystery was solved, and I was rather embarrassed. My intentions were good, but I messed that up. I supposed that because his skin was brown, and he was doing construction work he was Mexican. Is this stereo-typing the kind of thing that would get me cancelled? If I were running for office would my chances diminish as soon as word got out? I think I would be like burned toast, even though it was an honest mistake.
I wish some of these “WOKE” people would go back to sleep. Can you see the irony in this cancel business? Scores of people for a variety of reasons dig up dirt on those they are jealous of, or dislike, or are their opponents. Sometimes they find things dating back to their childhood. I read just yesterday where a female sideline sports reporter got fired when someone dug up a text that she wrote many years ago when she was barely a teenager in which she used the “N” word.
Many years ago, I dressed up as “Mr. T” for a Halloween party, I don’t know if many of you remember him or not, but at the time he was an African American actor in a very popular television show. I had a mounted buffalo hanging in my basement and cut some of its hair off to fashion the mohawk haircut that Mr. T sported, and I wore about ten pounds of fake gold necklaces. I blackened my face and wore a muscle shirt and nearly won the contest for best costume coming in second.
Now if I was running for office or in some public arena where I cared what these speech police clowns think, I would never dare tell this story. Even though it was not designed to disrespect African Americans in the least, I feel sure I would be cancelled though – Oh the horror of that happening. LOL.
I think it is totally ironic that nowhere is this silly mindset stronger than when wannabe politicians run for office. One must have lived a near perfect life to run for office these days or more realistically be adept at hiding every errant incident where someone might construe it as being brought to the attention of the speech police. The irony is that when these folks with their “perfect” records slither into office they become totally corrupt, lining their pockets with lobbyist bribes which gets spent on their immoral decadent lifestyle. I emphasize that not all are like that just like not all trial lawyers are scums.
Such is politics today. My wife and I have been praying daily that good moral leaders will get elected in this election and I encourage you to vote. As you go to the polls consider what each candidate has done in life with the realization that no one is perfect, and a mistake here or there made as a youngster doesn’t have much bearing on how they are today. What they state they believe in should be how they live out those beliefs.
Jesus is the only One who lived a perfect life, although there are righteous people in this world with good character. Try to ferret out the righteous, pray about it, and vote for them.
Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.
