About a year ago I had a wonderful lady who is a long-time reader of Words for the Day and lives on the west coast write and tell me that she and her husband were going to visit the east coast and wanted to know if she could come by our home in the Keys and meet me. I told her yes by all means to please stop by. My wife and I had a wonderful time meeting them. Much of our discussion centered around God and after they left, we each said we wished that this godly fun-loving couple lived nearby.

Yesterday I got this letter from her:

Dear Bob and Teresa,
I have been pondering what we will do in heaven a lot recently . . . My Bob went home to be with the Lord very suddenly 2 months ago. He came home after a round of golf and was changing to take me out to dinner. He simply collapsed and was gone!

I have tremendous peace in his eternal security (and God’s provision for me), but I do wonder . . . imagine . . . what he’s doing. I know there is feasting “He brought me to His banquet table, and His banner over me was love.” I know we will worship Him with song and gladness.

I enjoy country western music. Songwriters often refer to heaven’s red dirt roads, well stocked fishing holes, big bucks, grandma & grandpa, etc. I guess I’ll just have to keep imagining . . . until Jesus comes, or I go to join him…

I do treasure the memory of our trip to the Keys and meeting the two of you.

In His loving care,

I took a stab at describing what heaven might be like and what her husband might be doing at this very moment. It was woefully inadequate. Part of the problem is we only get little snippets here and there of what heaven is like. The Bible is clear that the eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor can we conceive of the wonderful things that lie ahead, so our conjecture about heaven cannot ever do it justice. That is not to say that I don’t think of it often and imagine.

I stand amazed at our friend’s faith in God’s promises both for her late husband and for God’s provision for her. I have prayed numerous times for her. So last night I was looking through some movies I have previously watched, and I ran across the movie, “I can only Imagine”. I decided to watch this very moving tear evoking story of how this song was written again. It describes imagining how heaven will be in a far better way than I ever could. The link for the original artist singing the song and lyrics to it are below:

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes would see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine
Yeah
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine, yeah-yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine

We can only imagine what wonders await us, my fellow believers. We can be assured, however, that it will far surpass what we have here. Just trust in God in all you do, and all those questions will be answered and more.

1 Cor. 2:9
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him —
