2022

It has turned cool with low humidity in Mississippi, and it feels great in the mornings. It warms up some by afternoon, but fall is in the air for sure. I’ve known plenty of people who love cold weather. I had one friend who moved to Alaska because he felt it was too warm where he lived in northern Minnesota. Before he passed away, he had moved back down to the lower 48 to Montana to a warmer climate. What a hoot I was on an elk hunt near Dillon Montana and after riding my horse to the high country in snow that was chest deep to my horse for a couple of hours my legs were numb. All I could think of was getting back to a roaring fire at the camp.

I like it tropical warm and humid most of the time, but I do like the change in the seasons. We are awaiting our first frost and the leaves turning colors before falling off the trees. Fall is a treat for someone who has lived in a tropical climate all these years, but late in the year when winter has set in, I feel sure I will return for a visit and some pleasant 80-degree weather while the rest of the country suffers through the frigid grey winter days.

So, why do you suppose God created this planet with seasons? My guess is he didn’t want us to get bored, but I think He knew we would enjoy His creation in vastly different ways. No two people are the same as indicated by no one else on the planet has identical fingerprints to yours and that is just for starters. Each one of us is different including even “identical” twins.

That is what mystifies thinking people who follow God. Our Lord saw fit to create white, black, brown, and yellow people with varying levels of intellect, athletic prowess, and strength, different looks, and appearance, those who can sing like a bird or yowl like a monkey in pain. The Bible declares that God deemed His creation as being “good” after He created it, and yet one group invariably thinks they are better than another. Go figure.

Would it be better if everyone was black, there was only one species of tree, one type of animal, bird, and fish? How about if the temperature remained the same year around with all sunny days and no rain or vice versus? No, my friends, we would not enjoy living in a world in which everything was the same.

Everything has its purpose. I have wondered for years what purpose love bugs serve. I am not aware of any bird or anything eating them. Certain times of the year they swarm like locusts and are hard as the dickens to clean off your vehicle when they splatter all over it. They reproduce and then die. Their young hatch out several months later and the process repeats itself. So why did God create these pests? I cannot answer that, but it was important to Him for them to exist and thus they exist.

I don’t know the answer to the “why” questions, but I try my utmost to look at things that exist on this planet as being important to God in the big scheme of things. The next time you disparage one of God’s creations being racially motivated, weather-related, or otherwise just remember God created the birds AND the bees for His own enjoyment and amusement as well as His mystery motives that we may never understand.

Gen 1:31
And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth — everything that has the breath of life in it — I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day.

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
