I am amazed at how fast our economy is sinking. My youngest son called yesterday and He was livid. His paycheck was decimated by taxes to nearly half of what he earned. The government took 44% of his pay!

Of course, those radical demonstrators who only live to march in the streets are delighted. The government takes that money and gives it to the freeloaders and the lazy grifters in exchange for their votes. It reminds me of something George Bernard Shaw said, “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” It seems that the Pauls of our nation outnumber the Peters these days.

Inflation has driven prices to skyrocket, especially gasoline and food. There are shortages of most everything and soaring prices on what little is available. It is the dawn of the Jimmy Carter era revisited. Alas, there seems to be little we can do about it. We hope that the next election will reclaim sanity, but it seems too difficult to think about. There are so many Pauls that want the gravy train to keep flowing that they outnumber the Peters of the nation.

Sadly there is little that can be done about it. Governments have been corrupt since they were spawned. It is hard to be positive when faced with such daunting challenges. The Bible tells us that if we keep the faith and keep the right attitude and if we are grateful, we will see God open up new doors.

The key to changing a negative situation to a positive is trusting God. In our microwave – I want it now – culture few can muster the patience to wait on the Lord. What a shame. You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind and positive reality comes from God and God alone.

Helen Keller was blind but perhaps her most famous quote was, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” I modified that a little to encompass a greater light that the sun – God. Keep your face to God and you cannot see a shadow. Staying positive in a fallen corrupt world can only be accomplished by focusing on the goodness of God and His eternal promise.

Job 11:18
And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security
