I was on the boxing team in several of the schools I attended. I had a huge advantage in that I was ambidextrous. I write, shoot a rifle, shoot pool left-handed but throw a ball and bat right-handed and my right arm is the stronger.
In boxing, I maintained a left-handed stance which from all indications looked to an opponent as though I would lead with my right and my power punch would come from my left hand. But my most powerful arm is my right and I could just as easily deliver a power punch from the right which would appear to an opponent to be merely another jab.
One of my coaches was delighted with my situation and likened it to the lyrics of the Johnny Cash hit tune Sixteen Tons of the ’50s, “if the left one don’t get you then the right one will”.
I was thinking of how Satan is working towards destroying our society this morning and it reminded me of those lyrics and my old boxing days:
If you see me comin’, better step aside
A lot of men didn’t, and a lot of men died
With one fist of iron, and the other of steel
If the right one don’t get you then the left one will
Satan has so many power punches it is mind-bending; drugs and alcohol addiction, pornography, sex outside of marriage, control of the media, control of schools, control of the government, control of big business, control of the entertainment and sports industries, just to name a few that are in his arsenal and is gaining on controlling religion. His left-right – right-left combinations will kill you.
There is some sage advice in the lyrics of this song. If you see me comin’, better step aside. A lot of men didn’t, and a lot of men died. Trying to fight Satan ourselves is anything but a fair fight. That my friends is why we need to step aside and allow Jesus to step in. We need the full armor of God for this battle. Our entire culture is crushing us from all sides and the peer pressure alone is enormous. We cannot win this fight without Jesus.
Take heart my friends our Father in heaven cares for you and will handily win the war using real power and those who remain faithful through the bitter and the sweet will dwell with Him in paradise forever. Amen and Amen . . .
1 Peter 5:8
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering . . .
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
