So today we’re scheduled to close on our new home. At least that is the hope. At this point I will believe it when I see it. It was supposed to close in early November, then by Thanksgiving, the next promise was before Christmas, then by the first of the year and so on. Lying comes second nature to those involved with its construction and they should consider publishing a book with the title, “The Book of lies for every occasion.”

Seething anger has dominated most of my thinking. I was boiling some shrimp the other night and I watched the water getting hotter and hotter and begin to steam and finally become a rolling boil. It reminded me of me, except I was boiling for months.

When the water was finally boiling, I dumped plenty of large Key West shrimp in it and fifteen minutes later I was eating delicious, boiled shrimp. So I suppose God reminded me of this today so I could just look at this as a lesson. His message:

Patience my friends – Patience! That is the lesson God is teaching me this morning. Well I smugly say it is much easier to say than do!

REALLY?

Do I actually think that God doesn’t know that? I believe life’s lessons during the shallow disappointments of our lives prepare us for the deeper disappointments such as standing by and watching our country going to hell and a handbasket at the hands of evil men and women. We must patiently await the coming of the Lord and know in our hearts that a delicious end will be the result.

I would be lying if I maintained that I never on occasion stubbornly think: Beware of the fury of a patient man! So I must drill into my head true patience is not the ability to await, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. Remember God has perfect timing; never early, never late. In this microwave world of instant gratification I sometimes lose sight of that and I want my result NOW and to heck with waiting. However, I don’t set the rules, God does and I need to cool my jets. This post is probably more for me than you, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you can relate.

Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
