My wife and I got our second and final COVID shots on Wednesday and yesterday I felt fine but my wife felt lousy. Today she feels much better. We had to go to the Florida panhandle in Madison, Florida for our shots and due to arriving early had a chance to drive out to nearby Honey Lake and check it out.
My son and his wife graciously had flown us up there on their private jet which only took a little over an hour’s flying time and saved me a full week of agony with my bad back had I driven up there again. We arrived early so we drove our rental car over to Honey Lake and wanted to go in the church that we built on the property but it was locked up. The entire resort, my house, and our guest house have all been converted to a treatment center for those who are hurting and it was bustling with activity. As I stood by the church and stared out at Honey Lake, I thought of all of the people who had been helped by this non-profit Christ based facility and I thanked God for making me a part of it.
I’m extremely happy living in the Florida Keys, but I do miss spending time there. It is so beautiful and I have so many wonderful memories of living in that beautiful place and still have a number of good friends living in the area. I teared up a little as I was standing there and thought about my good friend TK Wetherell’s passing away and all of the good times we had while hunting and fishing on that beautiful property. The highlight for us was Sunday and going to Bible study and then of course church service and afterwards eating a great meal at the resort restaurant.
Old TK and I spoke of heaven often. We discussed on many an occasion who would get there first and made a vow to each other that if our number was drawn first to scout out all of the good fishing holes before the other one got there. I’m sure he is too busy enjoying being with Jesus to do much scouting but I sincerely look forward to spending time with him again when it is my turn to enter those pearly gates.
I have several really good friends who are not believers. I pray for them often and it rips at my heart to think that unless they change their attitudes, they will spend eternity in hell separated from God and His church. It would be better not to even have been born than to be cast into hell.
There is yet time for them though and I pray they take advantage of it before COVID or some other malady overtakes them. I witness to them so much they seem annoyed, but what the heck, I deeply care about them. I’ve had far too many good times in life to even remember them all, but the highlight for me will always be introducing someone to the Jesus I love.
Time passes so fast it prompted the Reverend Billy Graham to answer a question for a reporter of what surprised him the most concerning life, and he responded the brevity of it. Indeed the Bible describes our life on this planet as but a mist, here for a moment and then gone. I want to use my mist to introduce more people to the Lord before the hot sun rises and I vanish.
How about you?
Do you have a friend or relative or even a complete stranger you could introduce to Jesus today? Then do so my friends while there is yet time.
James 4:14
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
