So several of you have inquired as to how my move into my new home is going. Actually it has gone far better than anticipated, albeit it still looks like a hurricane came through.
I’ve been highly anticipating moving into our new home and simultaneously dreading the hard work involved with the job. This morning I was doing my Bible study before the day’s storm began raging and I read Psalm 27. David ends the chapter with, “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait I say on the Lord.” This is sometimes difficult for those who are impatient like this old boy.
I have been fighting getting my home finished literally for months. We have fought every battle one could imagine trying to cope with the Key’s workforce and tough regulations and now getting our furniture and all our belongings in their proper place. My attempt at patience is laughable at this stage.
This Psalm begins chapter 27 like this: The Lord is my light and salvation; whom should I fear? This tells me to trust in the Lord and enjoy the ride and we will get there sooner rather than later.
We had dinner with some friends in Islamorada last night and they seemed totally distraught with what is happening in Washington D.C. I dislike it as well but I trust in the Lord and take it with a grain of salt. The Bible is clear that we should not worry. Most things we worry about never materialize. Winston Churchill once said of it, “When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.”
Even if some of it does happen, worrying doesn’t help. To me it’s like getting angry because it rains or is too windy to go fishing. I can worry all I want but it doesn’t change things one whit. It is best to do as David wrote, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait I say on the Lord.
David dealt with his fear and trouble using his confidence in God and his salvation. Enjoy the ride while you can and trust in the Lord who is the light of our salvation.
2 Tim. 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
