There was an interesting article in the WSJ this morning in which the writer alluded to a comment by Senator Diane Feinstein to Amy Coney Barrett which was intended as an insult but was actually perhaps the best compliment anyone could ever be awarded. She said: “The dogma lives loudly within you.”

The WSJ writer for the article said: “Clearly the senator was struck that sitting before her was a relatively young woman of authentic and deep religious conviction…What is reflected here is the profound incomprehensibility of Amy Coney Barrett to the caretakers of modern culture. There is something about her that is threateningly traditional – the big family, the unapologetic Midwestern wholesomeness, a faith that extends beyond going to church on Sunday to living her religious beliefs each day . . .

A hit team from the Washington Post days earlier produced a piece called “Amy Coney Barrett served as a handmaid in Christian group, People of Praise.” This put it two removes from the Branch Davidian cult and of course they tried to ridicule her as one of them.

Sigh . . .

The article continues to ridicule her “religiosity” which has a strict view of human sexuality that embraces once-traditional gender roles. And critics say her life has been spent in a cocoon of like-minded thinking which runs counter to the views of a majority of Americans. Their coup de gras was that she committed the highest level of offense by being in church of all places when she received the news via text that Justice Anthony Scalia had passed away.

I consider the dogma, (faith), that lives loudly within Amy Coney Barrett is the most admirable characteristic someone can possess and is what I aspire to have. Not only that but I pray that others will seek it and live it out – LOUDLY. Sadly something like 40-50 million evangelical Christians didn’t even bother to vote in the last election. This brave woman subjected herself and her family to the hounds of hell who are attacking everything about her. One might wonder why she would accept the nomination knowing what she would undergo. Well, she answered why she accepted the nomination:

I’ve made distinct choices. I’ve decided to pursue a career and have a large family. I have a multiracial family. Our faith is important to us. All of those things are true, but they are my choices. In my personal interactions with people, I mean, I have a life brimming with people who’ve made different choices, and I’ve never tried in my personal life to impose my choices on them. The same is true professionally. I apply the law.

Senator, I think I should say why I’m sitting in this seat in response to that question, too, and why I’ve agreed to be here. I don’t think it’s any secret to any of you or the American people that this is a really difficult, some might say excruciating process. Jesse and I had a very brief amount of time to make a decision with momentous consequences for our family. We knew that our lives would be combed over for any negative detail. We knew that our faith would be caricatured. We knew that our family would be attacked. We had to decide whether those difficulties would be worth it, because what sane person would go through that if there wasn’t a benefit on the other side?

The benefit, I think, is that I’m committed to the rule of law and the role of the Supreme Court and dispensing equal justice for all. I’m not the only person who could do this job, but I was asked, and it would be difficult for anyone. Why should I say someone else should do the difficulty? If the difficulty is the only reason to say no, I should serve my country. My family is all in on that because they share my belief in the rule of law.

I say bravo to this feisty, courageous, talented woman of faith. Let us all pray that the dogma that lives loudly within her also lives loudly within us! And let us proclaim it to the world with our votes and our testimony. Remember it is not what society or its caretakers deems is right or wrong – It is Almighty God who determines that.

Matt. 5:15

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them . . .
