June 26, 2020 – Click here to listen

The Lord tells us that The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

So day or night all over the world people can “hear” the glory of the Lord via the voice emanating from His beautiful creation.

The voice I hear relates to Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. It is helpful to me to just drive down to the beach, desert, mountains, or any area devoid of city lights and take a look at the sky and just listen to God. As I look at the wonders and immensity of God’s creation, I realize just how small we are in comparison. Just to think of God looking down at me at virtually the exact same time I’m looking up at the heavens gives me a feeling of warmth and security. The Bible tells us in Psalm 33:13 – “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth – he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.”

Sometimes we feel as though we are alone and feel that whatever situation we are in is hopeless. Psalm 131:2 states, But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.

No situation is hopeless, we are never alone and there is plenty of hope in God. The following verses offer some Godly wisdom for His people:

  • Psalm 46:10 – He says, “Be still, and know that I am God , , ,
  • Exodus 14:14 – The LORD will fight for you; you need only
    to be still
    . . .
  • Psalm 37:7 – Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
  • Psalm 62:5 – For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him . . .

“Be still’ means to stop striving, stop fighting, relax, surrender, and purposefully think about God and how good He has been to us and will continue to be . . . Headlines swirl, nations rage, Covid19 runs rampant, marriages strain, children stray, storm clouds loom, bank accounts are emptied, how the heck do we be still?

The Hebrew definition is to stop striving, to let go, surrender. The chapter begins and ends with God is our refuge. The clues can be found in verses 8 of Psalm 46. It tells us to “Behold the works of the Lord,” and it is fascinating to look at them and it assures us that in the midst of turmoil we can be still and know that God is God and He cares for us and will deliver His people. Leave the 24/7 news off and consider the works of the Lord. The world and its media cause us to be anxious about temporary problems and makes us angry at people who disagree with us. It is satanic in nature.

The next time you have fearful and anxious thoughts that are raging within you like a violent storm, do as Jesus did. Silence those thoughts by saying, “Peace, be still.” Fill your minds and hearts with the good things that surround you.

When you need strength and help, surrender to God and rest in Him, your refuge. “Be still and know that I am God.”

 Romans 12:2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
