Most people have a hard time paying taxes. It is a plague that has haunted mankind since the dawn of civilization. In the days of Jesus, tax collectors were despised. In my case I would not mind paying taxes if I knew that the money was going to be spent on roads, defense, schools and the like, but it is when it is squandered that I get steamed. Ronald Reagan put it best when he said: “The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” This is the greatest President that ever lived saying this!

It is difficult for people to understand income tax. Even the most famous genius in history, Albert Einstein, struggled with it: “The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax.” Most everyone complains about their taxes being too high – Mark Twain asked: What is the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector? The taxidermist takes only your skin.

Today we are seeing an epic example of taxation going awry. The Democrats are proceeding with impeachment hearings against President Trump in spite of it clearly being a partisan effort with 100 per cent of Republicans and several Democrats voting against it in the House and it will suffer a similar fate in the Senate. The Republicans will no doubt quash it and the Democrats will howl in front of hundreds of cameras, but it is a colossal waste of time and money that could be spent writing legislation to help the people live better lives.

Okay so that is bad, but what’s even worse is that we are paying these clowns to do these stupid things. We can vote them out, but one has to wonder if our votes will even be counted or cancelled out by non-citizen illegal immigrants, inmates, and dead people. I will vote anyway and encourage you to do likewise. I’m not optimistic that corruption in Washington D.C. will ever be eradicated, but we must try to at least hold it in check.

It’s an age old problem that can be solved by God alone.

Luke 2:12

“Some tax collectors came to be baptized, and they asked him, ‘Teacher, what are we to do?’ Don’t collect more than is legal, he told them.”
