Six police officers were shot by a drug dealer in Philadelphia this week. As the police called in reinforcements the crowd that assembled jeered at them, threw objects, shoved them, and otherwise showed utter contempt for those brave men and women who risk their lives to protect them. It is yet another disturbing sign of the times. It seems there is so much hate by them towards our country whereby our flag is disrespected, anarchists like Antifa are given free reign by leftist sympathizers who seem to share their warped ideology, and celebrities and media constantly berate, and deny anything good has ever come from America.

Most are now saying that America was never that great to begin with. Obviously they have never visited countries outside the United States. The number one concern polled prior to the upcoming election is illegal immigration. If our country is so bad, why are so many people trying to escape their own country and come here?

America is beautiful. God let His light shine on her and blessed her as no other country in the history of modern man. Our founders initially came here so they could enjoy freedom of worship. We were founded one nation under God.

The greatness of the nation was once inseparably linked in its citizens’ minds with the nation’s respect for God and the principles of morality and character taught in the pages of the Bible. The founders of the United States wanted God’s blessing on their efforts and generally recognized His laws as their guiding principles. They knew the nation’s success and greatness would come in proportion to the favor God granted it.

Regrettably, we seldom find such statements by the founding fathers in modern history books. Most have been deliberately expunged. But, when you do find them, they clearly reveal the thoughts and beliefs that motivated these men. Patrick Henry, member of the Continental Congress and five-time governor of Virginia, declared: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded . . . by Christians; not on religions [denominations], but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

John Adams, member of the Continental Congress and second president of the United States, remarked: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and a religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” The problem emanates from there. Somewhere along the line demonic forces have deceived the nation and we are no longer a moral and religious people. I long for the day when we have a President like Ronald Reagan who understood that the ills of the world can be healed by returning to our basic belief system in God. I pray for a leader like this great man who understood the love of God and that prayer is needed.

Psalm 33:12

What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
