Recently I have been thinking more and more about prayer. What good is it? God foreknows everything that will happen, and nothing can prevent our sovereign God’s will. And yet the Bible is adamant that we pray “ceaselessly.” Jesus prayed ceaselessly and so should we. Could it be that there is more to prayer than meets the eye?

As I examine prayer in my mind I think of it being similar to a recipe for a delicious “Holy cake.”

Asking for things is the most common ingredient of most Holy cakes and stimulates more prayer than anything, but alone it is grossly incomplete. Confession and repentance are basic dynamic and necessary ingredients, but a cake cannot be baked solely with them either.  Adoration adds to the delicious flavor, and the presence, and enjoyment of God during prayer is the icing that adorns it. A holy prayer cake is a combination of all of them and allows us a delicious peek at God showing us Himself.

So, in this humble writer’s opinion when we go to God in prayer a combination of ingredients is needed, and the end result is that we will attain being in the very presence of God and He will show us Himself. In this process the Bible says God wants to give us good things and we are to ask. Obtaining what we want within His will is part of the recipe He has designed.

With that in mind I have a request for prayer for a precious tiny little girl who has already experienced far too much pain in her young life. Soon she will undergo yet another heart operation. It is vital for her survival and if successful, she should be able to lead a normal life. Her name is unimportant for God knows her well. Take a moment right now and pray for her and remember asking for things is just one ingredient. Bake the entire cake during this prayer and get a peek at God Himself as He responds to this urgent need. Best of all you can eat as much of this Holy cake as you wish and you will not gain an ounce, indeed your health will flourish.

James 5:13

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
