Do you want a fast that will virtually eliminate stress in your life? Try my “television fast.”
Recently my wife and I cancelled direct TV and quit watching television altogether. It wasn’t just the nauseating, opinionated, slanted, news that bothered me, but the “Hollywood progressive agenda” being propagated in virtually everything I watched. In every situation in movies or most any series a woman or minority was portrayed as being in charge with white males generally portrayed as weak, ineffectual, and embarrassingly stupid, thus satisfying the feminists. Homosexual scenes were included no matter the storyline, even when it made no sense to include them thus satisfying the LGBT agenda. Murder, violence, and sexual perversion seem to be the mainstay thus satisfying the hedonist agenda. An unmistakable liberal, progressive agenda is pounded into living rooms worldwide with even sports channels supplying a heavy dose of it.
Not wanting to be ill-informed of world affairs or the weather I decided to skim read the news headlines on the internet. If it is just more of the same, (Trump slamming, feminist, homosexual marketing, anti-Christian bias, and so on,) I don’t bother to read it. If it happens to be actual news, I read it. Most days I found myself going through five different internet websites and reading them word for word, but lately I’ve been limiting it to one or two site scans and very little in-depth reading.
Meanwhile my skills on playing the guitar have improved greatly as have other hobbies. Conversation with my wife, kids, and friends has increased and I find myself engulfed in the Bible and Christian books more and more. I had all but quit speaking but have begun booking several speaking events and look forward to them. And importantly my prayer life has dramatically increased.
All in all, I have decreased my stress level and added quality time to my life and in serving God. I think it boils down to one verse Phil. 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.
I don’t find much on television that fits this verse.
Fasting is never easy, but the results, (fruit) make it worthwhile. I know that fasting from TV is not in Daniel or anywhere else in the Bible, but it makes sense to me. Importantly it works. I urge you to give it a try.
