I saw an interesting exchange on Twitter whereby President Trump sent a tweet to California Senator Kamala Harris, who has called for changes to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including “starting from scratch.” Trump asked:
Why are you supporting the animals of MS-13? You must not know what ICE really does. Here is a link to help you out:
Not to be outdone she quickly responded:
As a career prosecutor, I actually went after gangs and transnational criminal organizations. That’s being a leader on public safety. What is not, is ripping babies from their mothers.
But wait there’s more: Daily Wire Editor-in Chief Ben Shapiro entered the fray:
When you arrested them for crimes, did you separate their children from them?
Boink!
According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics 2,220,300 adults were incarcerated in US federal and state prisons, and county jails at last count. How many are separated from their kids? Any of them that have kids and most of them do. Having been in prison ministry 30 some odd years I can tell you when I ask for a show of hands of those who have kids when speaking at prison events the majority of inmate’s hands go up. It is one of the saddest things lawbreakers face, particularly women. It’s even more sad for the children.
Often what is lost in this debate is that these border crossers are breaking the law when they illegally enter this country. If someone breaks the law, they are incarcerated. If they have kids, they are separated. It is a consequence of being a law-breaker. Now there are those who think that entering this country should not be against the law. That is their opinion, but it is not law.
Trump is enforcing the law. If anyone wants to blame someone for the immigration mess, then they need only look as far as Congress. They make the laws and Trump enforces them. Democrats refuse to pass the laws because they need something to campaign on. Poor little children are caught in the middle . . . No matter what we think of laws we must obey them . . .
