Yesterday I was knee deep in moving for the fifth day in a row. Ugh!
Our furniture was/is located in three different locations. Much of it was stored on the west coast of Florida in Sarasota. More was stored in northern Florida at Honey Lake near Greenville, and the house I’ve been leasing in South Florida on the east coast contained the rest.
This move was a logistical nightmare which required that we travel to each of these locations and necessitated boxing up household goods before the movers arrived. Of course, after the movers deliver all those boxes at my new home, then they must be unboxed and put away.
Movers and loaded trucks have been descending on us since Saturday with the last delivery scheduled for tomorrow. My job has been to direct traffic when the movers arrive and after they leave move anything heavy that was misplaced from room to room.
I am reminded of how I felt after a tough football game or perhaps one of the many car wrecks I was in. I’m sore all over! So, I was relieved to be able to sit down for a couple hours yesterday to attend a telephone video conference board meeting for the Jesus Alliance. We discussed many exciting things happening in our ministry, some of which afford us the capacity to change the world for the better in a huge way.
So things were rocking along very well until our legal counsel singled me out in front of the board as the culprit who is delaying the adoption of our revised bylaws. He is entirely correct in that I’ve had plenty of time to read and edit them; however, the only thing that I despise worse than moving is reading a pile of legal documents four inches thick.
I promised to get the project done immediately after finishing my move and prior to going to Washington next week.
It just so happens that I’m also simultaneously negotiating several complex real estate deals and setting up a Christian foundation, and more attorneys are sending more complex documents to read daily.
This in addition to all of my other calls and texts that I receive on a normal day.
I have a ringtone on my phone that sounds like a dog barking and messages are announced with a railroad whistle sound. During all of my waking hours I have been besieged with barking dogs and trains whistling.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed physically and mentally?
There is an old hymn that popped up in my mind that has greatly relieved me. The main verses I have been singing this morning are as follows:
I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
No turning back, no turning back
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus
I’ll get through this in fine shape and will go fishing again one day. Turn to Jesus all you who labor and are weary!
Exodus 33:14
And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
