I’ve been re-reading the Bible and am currently working my way through Matthew. It’s amazing to me how each time I read the Bible from cover to cover that I discover tons of material that had previously escaped my attention. When I’m reading it cover-to-cover-word-for-word and I’m studying it every day of my life one would think that after a while none of it would be new to me, but it is.
How can this be?
The Bible says of itself that it is “living.” I understand that to mean it has vital power of its own. I see this daily when I read it, and it’s as though God tells me to stop and ponder something and/or reread it. When He does that He is communicating for His own purpose and make no mistake His purpose shall be accomplished.
God described it in Isaiah 55:11 when He said: So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
I understand faith to be the major accomplishment of the word. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. An ordinary book can stimulate emotions such as laughter and weeping, and it can teach us about various things, but reading the Bible results in supernatural change of someone’s life.
I came to know Christ from reading the Bible and it totally transformed my life. Reading a book could never have done that. I think that is what it means when we read: The word of God is active, powerful, and living and sharper than any two-edged sword.
In Matthew beginning in chapter 13:1 Jesus likened the Word of God to a seed. The Bible, is similar to a seed, in that it is not dead, but living, and it has the ability to bring forth life abundantly. Some seeds produce magnificent trees. Psalm 1:2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Once that seed takes root it grows and multiplies and produces fruit which can yield more fruit.
I encourage you to open your Bible and discover the power within its covers beginning today. You will never be sorry that you did. It will illuminate your life.
Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
