Yesterday I was taking my wife to the airport and I saw a young teenage girl who appeared to be very pregnant standing on the side of the road with a sign that said, “Homeless and Pregnant”. As I drove on down the street another 100 yards I saw a well-dressed man who appeared to be in his early forties holding a sign that said, “What the world needs is Jesus Christ.”
I was running late in getting my wife to the airport in time to catch her plane, so I drove on without stopping. After I dropped her off I returned using the same route and was determined to stop and see if I could help the teenager. As I arrived at the intersection where I’d seen her, my heart sank because she was gone. The man with the Jesus sign was still there, but there was no sign of her anywhere.
As I drove on home I mulled this through my mind and concluded that the world already has Jesus Christ; He already did His part. What the world needs now is followers of Jesus who are willing to do what He told us to do.
What did He tell us to do?
The answer can be found in Mark 12:31 . . . and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
So, like the song that Dionne Warwick made famous so many years ago says, “What the world needs now is love sweet love –
it’s the only thing that there’s just too little of – What the world needs now is love sweet love, / No, not just for some, but for everyone . . . ”
I hope and pray that this young girl found someone who loved her and was willing to help her yesterday. However just to be sure, today I’m going to make it a point to return to the same location and see if she is there and render some help. I pray that she is not, and some kind soul has already arranged for her to get into a home where she can receive the care she will need to bring her beautiful baby into this world. Praise God she hasn’t resorted to having an abortion yet.
We all have opportunities to help others in this life. Let today be yours and mine.
Watch this video. It will bless you.
