Last night I attended a dinner hosted by the organization, United for Christ. Before the dinner I was milling around talking to some of the distinguished guests including Eric Shenkel who heads up the Jesus film project for CRU. He began telling me about an ambitious project to assemble the 2 billion Christians that they have determined are currently in the world to pray together on the same day.
My good friend, celebrated film maker and producer Bryan Hickox, and I began discussing it with him, and Bryan who helped Graham Power with the Global Day of Prayer some years back, offered to advise them on how to do the hookups to 8 different satellites that will broadcast the event all over the world. These will be aired by GodTV and a host of other networks spanning time zones around the globe as well as different phone apps.
As I trolled the room I also discussed an ongoing project to plant ten million churches with the gentleman who oversees that project. Considering all existing churches, they envision having one church for every 1000 people on the planet by 2020. Good progress has already been made, and 1 million new churches have already been planted and the rest are currently being planned and implemented. This project is costing approximately a billion and a half dollars and I’m told fundraising is going well.
Then another bombshell was dropped on me. Bible translators Wycliffe and CRU have translated the Jesus film into over 2400 some odd languages They are doing this for every people group that has at least 50,000 people in it that speak that language. Out of the blue YWAM indicated a willingness to translate the remaining 5000 some odd languages. This would mean that every known language in the world would have access to Holy Scripture.
Just then the dinner began and our distinguished speaker, who is a charismatic Catholic, spoke of the triumphs and failures of trying to unite a stubborn body of believers. He spoke of having doors slammed in his face by Pentecostals, Baptists, and others because he was a Catholic, without their even knowing that he was Spirit filled to his core and as charismatic and Bible believing as their most ardent believer.
I can relate. One of our primary planks at the Jesus Alliance is to get believers to put aside their differences and unite. This can be done without uniformity; meaning we can still be diverse in the way we worship Jesus, but we all simply agree that justification can only be achieved by His sacrifice on the cross. So, by working together we can get every Christian on earth praying simultaneously, and we can plant Bible believing discipling churches all over the planet, and we can translate it into 7500 different native languages. We can also band together as one body and vote to elect someone who will nominate Supreme Court justices who will interpret the law as set forth in our constitution, rather than making up their own laws to mollify special interests.
By ourselves we cannot accomplish much of anything of any significance; together (with each other and God), nothing is impossible for us. I urge you to visit the website of the Jesus Alliance and our Facebook page and like us and join the movement. We are assembling a worldwide network of Christians whereby we can equip and motivate them to take monumental action destined to change the world and stimulate worldwide revival and a great awakening. We serve a mighty omni-powerful God and no dream is beyond His power and might.
Jesus prayed for us to be as one as He and the Father are One in order that people would believe in Him. I urge you to put aside your misgivings and distrust of all those other denominations, (there are some 43,000 in the world), and adopt Bill Bright’s philosophy of “If you love Jesus I can work with you.”
John 17:20
I am not asking on behalf of them alone, but also on behalf of those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one — . . .
