I’ve been without television for a month. Our carrier had been too swamped to install our cable package until this past Monday. It wasn’t a big deal to me because I rarely watch television at all; however my wife was getting pretty bored.
I normally find and read news through various websites that are both right and left wing in order to understand issues from both perspectives. So in an effort to broaden my intake of current events I began watching a little news on television Monday night and was amazed at the politically inspired vitriol that is being spewed like vomit from virtually every channel. It was so bad that I just couldn’t watch it, and as far as I’m concerned, they could take those channels off the air. Instead I watched a dopey movie David and Goliath on Netflix that was so poorly made that it was laughable.
I went back to the Internet for my news and read this morning that Tim Berners-Lee, the man who created the World Wide Web, (no it wasn’t Al Gore), initially did so as a way for scientists to easily find information. Little did he realize that it would become the world’s most powerful medium for knowledge, communications, and commerce.
He is unhappy with its consequences and has organized a summit in San Francisco to try and deal with it. The project is in its early days, but the discussions, and high caliber of the people involved underscored how the World Wide Web’s direction in recent years has stirred a deep anxiety among some technologists. Recent revelations and release of thousands of documents by Edward J. Snowden of WikiLeaks reveal that the web has been used by governments for spying and the realization that companies like Amazon, Facebook and Google have become gatekeepers to our digital lives have added to concerns.
Mr. Berners-Lee states: “It controls what people see, creates mechanisms for how people interact,” he said of the modern day web. “It’s been great, but spying, blocking sites, repurposing people’s content, taking you to the wrong websites — that completely undermines the spirit of helping people create . . . The problem is the dominance of one search engine, one big social network, one Twitter for microblogging. We don’t have a technology problem, we have a social problem.”
Call me crazy but it seems to me that everything we see on television, printed-media, and the Internet control what people see and therefore determines how they will react and thus winners and losers are chosen by the powerful people in control of these mediums.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised to see that Christians are not among the power brokers.
This morning we are greeted with headlines like:
I AM A WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR – HILLARY FIRST LADY
WikiLeaks has released information that will help us understand how someone with so many serious corruption issues could win with the help of the power brokers. Assange said: “Google is directly engaged in Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt, set up a company to run the digital component of Hillary Clinton’s campaign . . . By utilizing data analytics and digital outreach as vital ingredients that allow candidates to find, court, and turn out critical voter blocs.” He went on to say “Google controls 80 percent of the smart phone market through its control of Android and if you control the device itself – that people use to read – then anything that they connect to through that device you have control over as well. Google has gotten into bed with the Obama administration in a very significant way. It is the company that visits the White House more than any other – averaged once per week in the last 4 years.”
Hmmm looks like the Obama legacy will go on for another eight years unless somehow people can avoid the brainwashing that is underway in practically every form of media. So-o-o-o with every form of media vilifying Trump and glorifying Hillary it looks as though absent a miracle of God that she will be our next President?
Yikes! Now that’s a scary thought.
Lord help us!
Was all of this predicted in the Bible? I believe the partial answer can be found in 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 – “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
Are we living in the Last Days or what? I’m just happy that the Lord will return before it reaches its full crescendo. There will be a good outcome . . . Keep the faith.
Revelation 13:7
“It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.”
