In my Bible study I have found that words matter deeply to our Lord. This indicates to me that it should to us as well and we should read the Bible carefully and meditate upon each word’s meaning. For example many folks seem to think that our battle is with individuals. Those of us who are actively engaged in the war being waged against God and His church tend to focus on those whom we see attacking us, multi-billionaire George Soros, Barrack Hussein Obama and Hillary Clinton to name a few. In reality they have been attacked themselves and unfortunately did not fare too well and are now being used to fight God and all that He considers holy, such as the sanctity of life, marriage between man and a woman, morality etc. Thus the real battle is spiritual and the real enemy is Satan not individuals.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us: “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
I wonder if people realize what this verse signifies. The Bible states that when Lucifer fell that one third of the angels in heaven fell with him. I’ve always wondered how many angels that entailed. Lucifer is not omnipresent like God so he cannot be everywhere at once, so how much damage could one entity do. The answer lies in the Scriptures and we realize that he is not alone in this war.
Revelation 12:7 – and war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the EARTH, and his angels were cast out with him.
Revelation 12:4 – And his tail swept away A THIRD of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might DEVOUR her child.
To get an idea of just how many angels were cast from heaven to earth we only need look to Hebrews 12:22 – But you are come to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an INNUMERABLE company of angels . . .
How powerful are angels? More than us . . . Psalm 8:5 – You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.
So if we review these verses we understand that angels are innumerable; one third of this vast horde was cast down to earth, (and currently reside here); they stand ready to devour us; and they were created higher than us, (meaning they possess powers that we do not have). After careful review of all of these Scriptures, now we can better understand what and whom we are up against.
So should we be quaking in our boots?
Hmmm . . . That would normally be the case when someone is vastly outnumbered by a superior force, but we should keep in mind that two thirds of those innumerable angels who booted them out of heaven to begin with, remain loyal to our Lord and stand ready to defend believers.
Psalm 34:7 – The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.
Psalm 91:9 – Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
Matthew 18:10 – “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
Best of all we believers have Jesus Christ, (God Himself) to defend us. The mere mention of His name makes demons tremble. James 2:19 – You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder. God created them and all that exists; He is omnipotent meaning all-powerful!
The Bible teaches that we must put on the full armor of God daily in order to successfully win our battle with “evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places”. Those who choose to fight alone without donning the full armor of God will not fare well against the hordes of demonic oppressors and may ultimately join them in being separated from all that is good forever. Put on the full armor of God today!
Eph. 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
