This week I attended a meeting and there was a luncheon with Fred Barnes, (frequent commentator on Fox News and National Review staff member) as our speaker. He gave a speech that dripped with cynicism and pessimism that knew no bounds, and his dark outlook of the state of our nation and forecast for the future made our situation seem hopeless.

Afterwards I approached Barnes and told him that after hearing his gloomy talk I looked to the guy sitting next to me and inquired as to where I might find the closest assisted suicide clinic. He told me that he thought it might be in Sweden. I told him that was too far, and I needed something a little quicker, and wondered if Oregon might be a better bet.

Barnes looked at me as though he thought I was crazy and was not at all amused.

Dang! What does he expect? Geez . . .

I have reached a point whereby I cannot watch the news. It’s so depressing that it’s no small wonder that most people in this country have lost faith in our ability to change things. According to Gallup just four in ten Americans trust the mass media. In my opinion that does not say much for the intellectual capacity of the four.

Everyone in the media is biased. They use the news to push their agendas and to skew the news. This can be done overtly in the manner that they write or speak, or through something as subtle as a properly-chosen photograph or edited video.

And which way is it skewed? 85% of the media is extreme far left and the extreme far right makes up the 15% balance.

Why is it that someone who is in the middle, not radical, and just wants to get the truth out will not buy and maintain a mainstream news outlet? It seems that only the extreme on both sides have adequate funds (and the desire) to buy media conglomerates that are used by them as propaganda laden lie spewing machines.

The Lord told me something one time. He said, “The world is ruled by money and not by conviction”. It seems to me that since that is the case, then the way to solve the problem is go to the source of the money to change things. Advertisers finance the media, and without them the media would be out of business fast. So the media must cater to the desires of their advertisers in order to get the fuel they need to run their propaganda machines.

Rule one: Advertisers advertise in order to make money and if there is no return on investment they will stop advertising.

What would happen if people would rise up and demand the truth and tell advertisers that they will avoid their products like the Bubonic plague if they continue to fund the spin masters?

I know that the convictions of the journalists and those who own their media empires will always play second fiddle to the god of money. Certainly that would be the case for those business leaders who advertise and whose fortunes depend upon consumers.

Our country can change and things aren’t hopeless. What has to happen is that the sleeping giant of those of us who simply desire truth and decency must awaken and flex our mighty muscles.

Just keep in mind that those who sit on the Boards of companies throughout America are deeply concerned about the bottom line and appeasing their stockholders. When they perceive a threat of any type, any convictions of what they perceive to be right or wrong go out the window.

Ask yourself why a television series about Lucifer could make it to the prime time when 7 of 10 Americans believe in God? Why would advertisers support such a thing when obviously millions and millions don’t support it?

Anticipated high ratings. High ratings mean sales of goods advertised.

Ok so seven out of ten in this country profess to believe in God. What would happen if 80 million or so of us went to the advertisers of this series and told them that we do not want this show on television? We could make the point that we spend money and we are tired of being ignored and their products will suffer soon if things don’t change.

What if we went to congress and said we don’t want to fund the NEA and have them spend our hard earned tax dollars on a grant that produces a cross put in a bottle of urine that is called art?

What would those in congress do when they understood that this group actually votes and makes campaign donations and doesn’t want them to vote to use tax dollars to fund abortions via Planned Parenthood?

We already know the answer because the lobbyists representing those who wish to destroy this country are already succeeding wildly at it. They would of course vote to stay elected.

If we cannot get it together I suppose we can always organize a trip to Sweden. But I still believe that there is hope for America, but enough people of faith have to unite in order to bring about real change. Jesus told believers to unite. Think about it.

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth
