Have you ever wondered why God gave satan so much power and allows him and his fallen angel followers to wreak havoc on humanity? Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? Most everyone has thought about this at one time or other. Most would agree with me that the Bible is rather mute on this subject.
God’s answer to questions regarding His goodness and love for humanity is in Jesus Christ. God loved us so much that He allowed His only son at the age of just 33 to be spit upon, cursed, beaten, slapped, whipped, stabbed, stripped of His clothes and nailed to a cross which was raised up dislocating his shoulders in the process. He was mocked and jeered by evil men as He died a slow and painful death and as He took sin upon Himself on behalf of humanity, for the first time in His existence, His Father had to turn from Him because He cannot tolerate sin. Jesus had to take on the totality of the black sins of humanity and take the punishment for every single sin ever committed completely alone. He did it willingly and without complaint because He loves us. God (Jesus) at any time could have called a million angels to destroy the evil men and forces that were torturing Him and put a stop to the carnage, but He did not. Why did God allow His Son to go through this? Because He loves us and He proved it by offering to us the most precious thing that He has, His Son whom He loves.
We will not be able to answer why bad things happen in this world, especially when they happen to good people. We can however know that God intimately knows our anguish and pain and can relate. He has lived through it. The Bible assures us that if we will draw near to Him, He will in turn draw near to us and comfort us. He has sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us and we should welcome Him.
Some things will not be explained until the next life and some things may never be explained. We were created lower than God and much of the mystery surrounding God is beyond our comprehension. In the end we must have faith and trust that God has His good and valid reasons for everything that occurs within His creation. We only need to look towards Jesus to understand that God is good and He loves us.
I believe we should focus more on our purpose in life and what God wants us to accomplish during the brevity of this life. It is but a vapor, but eternity is forever. Though we might suffer for a few years we will enjoy perfection in paradise for eons. Don’t waste a precious moment on this earth lamenting that it is not perfect, because your life will soon be gone and this world will forget everything about our being. We will just be getting warmed up in heaven in ten thousand or so years and at that time, it will be totally PERFECT and all wrongs will be made right.
Eph. 2:8
For by grace you have been
saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast.
For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good
works which God prepared beforehand
That we should walk in them.
