Yesterday I attended an event at CCS a local Christian school with General Jerry Boykin as its keynote speaker. The general has an impressive resume. He was the United States Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence from 2002 to 2007, and is a conservative Christian political activist. During his 36-year career in the military he spent 13 years in the Delta Force, including two years as its commander, and was involved in numerous high-profile missions, including the 1980 Iran hostage rescue attempt, the 1992 hunt for Pablo Escobar in Colombia, and the Black Hawk Down incident in Mogadishu, Somalia. He is an author and teaches at Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia and is currently the executive vice president at the Family Research Council.
He delivered an excellent speech including telling how he was severely wounded and nearly lost his arm when Grenada was invaded. He is an outstanding speaker and great American hero and received a thundering standing ovation upon conclusion of his speech.
I’d met him several times at various Christian gatherings and I stopped by and paid my respects to this great man of valor. I received a copy of his latest book, Never Surrender, and I asked him to sign it and to please list the Bible verse that inspired him the most. It was Isaiah 6:8 – Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Praise God for brave men and women who step up to the plate and volunteer to defend our country against those whom would enslave us. Their love of country and freedom and willingness to risk and sacrifice it all are the reasons we enjoy it as Americans.
As I pondered this today I could not help but draw a correlation to the spiritual war being fought against those demonic forces that attempt to enslave us. The Bible is clear that we are engaged in spiritual warfare. God has called each of us to enter the battle. My answer to God’s call as to whom He should send to wage Holy war against evil is: “Here am I. Send me!”
Is that your answer? Or are you sitting it out on the sidelines? I encourage you to don yourself with the full armor of God and join the battle. God is our Commander in Chief and it has already been determined that we will ultimately win this war. When the battles have all been won and we stand victorious with Jesus Christ, where will you be? I pray that it will be standing with our Savior.
Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church or somewhere this weekend.
Eph. 6:13
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
